Hi, Brendan. I’ve escalated the thread. Just as a quick aside, the dev team will be out for a few days next week, so there may be a bit of a delay on this.

Any chance we can get an idea on when someone will be taking a look at this?

Hi, Brendan. I escalated this a while back, and late yesterday pinged the dev team for the internal thread where I did the escalation. They’re back from a week long scrum training conference. Hopefully not too much longer.

After much investigation we’ve narrowed this down to a bug. I’ve filed the bug report, and while I don’t have a solid workaround, we will get this resolved as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks Brandon. Hopefully a fix can be rolled out soon, as my client uses this function a great deal during her workshop period to let users know the latest activity on the forums.

Client has requested I follow-up and see if this bug has or is being fixed. We’ve seen EE 1.7.1 released (security), will the Forum software be fixed soon…pretty please?

It appears this wasn’t fixed in this release. However, we are changing how we do releases going forward. We’ll be releasing more frequently, but I don’t have a schedule how that’s going to happen.

I have received a message from my client regarding this and requested I post on her behalf:

I’m the client that this ticket was raised for.  I am hugely frustrated that this issue has not been resolved in a timely manner.  I am totally reliant on this feature in my workshops and have had complaints from my students who cannot navigate the forum easily.  They are not receiving the information they require. 

It has been close to two months since this issue was raised and given you have identified the bug, I am dismayed that it cannot be resolved.

I am frequently asked for advice regarding setting up similar online learning resources and I’m reluctant to continue recommending EE given this issue. 

I would appreciate an urgent response as this continues to impact my business.

Thank you Lisa, it really is one of the important functions that my client uses in the success of the courses she runs, and when it doesn’t work, the survey’s she gets back from students really let her know about that which is missing.

Hey Brendan,

I poked this code for a while today and I don’t yet have a bugfix that I’m truly happy with. I do, however, have a temporary fix to get you back up while we sort out the logic in that module.

Take the short name of the board you’re trying to to show entries from (if there are more than one, pick one). Make sure the board you choose is enabled. Add that short name to the tag using the board= parameter. This will have no effect on what is shown, it simply tricks the forum module into (correctly) assuming that the forum is enabled.

So your code sample earlier in this thread will turn into something like:

{exp:forum:topic_titles orderby="recent_post" sort="desc" limit="50" boards="{Explore_Forum_Board_ID}" board="enabled_board_short_name"}

Let us know how that works out.

That looks to have done the trick, thanks very much. Luckily we also has a Fresh Variable already setup for “{current_explore_forum}” which has shortname stored just in case the bugs don’t get squashed before the next set of workshops roll around.
