Has anyone tested the control panel in the FireFox4 beta? It is on version 11 and apparently to be released at the end of the month - and the control panel has a few niggles with it…
Mainly the drop down menus skitting on and off inconsistently when mousing over the gap between the button and drop down box.
I’ll keep testing, but seeing as i imagine most users here use firefox and you might want to do some pre-emptive testing!

Maybe it depends on theme and platform. I’m using Corporate theme on Firefox 4 beta and all looks normal on Mac. So far. I switched to Default and that appears OK, too.

default theme, win7, FF4. Drop Downs are painful to use
And i am not quite sure what is up with the theme for Nav-EE on that - all the text looks like it is melting with a shocking shadow! Thats probably the beta though, and i know a new theme is coming for Nav-EE

    nevsie,

It certainly will be tested once a final release is ready.
You sound like you have issues with Nav-EE in FF4. Maybe that is interfering with the default theme?

No, Nav-ee’s Text is just overly blurry, hence it looks melted.
My main issue with EE and FF4 is the drop downs, 3 out of 4 times when i click the top menu item and move to the submenu box (for example for Content, to try and publish) the submenu box disappears, so i have to try this another 3 to 4 times to be able to get the menu item i want and to be able to click it.

There are some other issues, along the lines of presentation and JS rendering in the CP too, but these are less annoying than the above.

I understand you not wanting to waste your time in a rough beta - but seeing as Mozilla say this is 98% there, and that it should be released in less than two weeks, i thought you might take a more proactive stance.
But it does seem the worry about it later, reactive approach strikes again :-(

I just downloaded beta 11 a few minutes ago, and will be using it for support here in the forum - but on a Mac, not a PC. But when I test, I test on just the basic install set, no third party add-ons, unless I’m trying something in particular out.

See how you get on, i have had to uninstall it as it was slowing down my EE significantly. Back to good old FF 3.6!

nevsie, thanks for the feedback. We will definitely be looking into FF4 when it progresses a little further. I’ll leave this thread open in case you want to make any more additions to your findings.

Not sure if it is a little later yet. but FF4 final RC is out now (this is the version that will shortly be pushed public), i’ve just upgraded my standard non beta version. And the drop downs are still hit an miss with being able to use them.

Hi, nevsie - we do have some Windows users on our team; like others, I can’t reproduce this on a Mac, but I’ll ask those Windows users to give it a shot and see if we can figure out what’s going on.

Are you by any chance running any Firefox add-ons that might be playing a part?  I know back when I used Firefox, add-ons could often be a major player in site rendering, so it would be good to know if there are any of those sorts of interactions.

    Thanks!

[Edit to add] Just in case we can not reproduce this, do you by any chance have the means to take a short video of what you’re seeing?  That could be very helpful.  It’s ok if not, but can’t hurt to ask, eh?

    Thanks!

I think i need to make myself a little clearer! There are no massive rendering issue.
The primary issue with EE control panel on new Firefox is when using the menu and their drop downs. Click “content” and try and run the mouse from there into the dropdown menu, it disappears.

Having seen this a million times before (when building dropdowns) it is as though the drop down box is positioned a few pixels below the actual button, and so you are no longer on the active button for a tiny area, hence the menu does not think it is active and hides the drop down.

This sounds minor, especially as it is very much hit and miss. But when using the control panel this drives you nuts often having to take 3 to 4 attempts to get to the submenu item you wanted.

The other comment about the Nav-EE menu items - is just a bad case of how it interprets background shadow, and this is not EE that has the problem, just the nav-ee style. But that is for nav-ee to sort… see screen grab attached.

but it is the dropdown menu that i hope they will look into…

That makes sense, nevsie.  I believe some of our EE 2.0 closed beta builds (way back when) had a similar issue; frustrating that it’s coming back up again in the new Firefox!  Sorry that it’s biting you.  I have escalated this and we are trying to reproduce.  Will follow up here once we have more information - possibly later this week but hopefully will be sooner than that.

Thanks for the new and detailed explanation, that helped a lot!

one thing that may be worth considering - is check the default font, or at least the font spacing for FF4. I have started to see many peoples websites menus breaking due to seemingly larger and bolder rendered fonts. N

continuing the above - there does seem to be a font rendering issue, specifically in windows and related to the hardware acceleration they activated in early beta. This same issue occurs in IE9, and explains the font spacing issues - so this might related to the dropdown spacing issue being windows specific.

    Hi Nevsie,

I have beta 12 running on Vista here and I can replicate this issue.
