I logged on this morning and my file manager will no longer function on either of my sites.  I went in to create a new entry and clicked on the icon to the file manager.  I can browse for an image but when I click on upload I get some strange behavior.  It first takes me to the bottom on the page so I have to scroll back up to select file upload.  I can browse for an image but nothing happens when I click upload.  Half the time the option to browse does not even show up.

The image files are 314 kb so relatively small.

When I try to upload an image using the file manager under the “content” tab, I can browse but when I try to upload it just spins (uploading file) forever.

I’m on EE2.1.0.  Nothing has been changed as far as I can tell and everything has been functioning properly for months now.  It was last functioning as expected the 2/5/2011 the last time I added an entry with an image.  I’ve been focused on template designs for a new site for the last 9 days.

Not even sure where to start.

... my file manager will no longer function on either of my sites.

This has been working before? In that case it’s very likely that something has changed, some configuration changes, perhaps, a software upgrade, anything like that. Have you asked your host about it? Also, what version and build of EE are you using?

You might also want to upgrade to EE 2.1.3, lots of improvements and bugfixes since the.

Yes it has been working fine.

No config changes on my end over the last week.  No software updates initiated by me either.

I’m checking with Engine Hosting now.

    EEv2.1.0 Build: 20100810

I’ll go ahead and look into upgrading to 2.1.3 while this gets worked out.

EE Hosting feels like it is not on their end.  Here is some more information I have gathered.

    Site 1: country-cooperative.com
    Admin/Content administration/File Upload Preferences:

    Main Upload Directory
    /www/eh****/public_html/country-cooperative/images/
    http://country-cooperative.com/images/
    image properties: style=“border: 3;”

to publish an entry - add an image
    click on ‘file chooser” icon
    Red tab - Upload File
“browse” works but “upload” does not
Black tab - main directory is pointing to the “main directory” for purebred-dog.com because I can only see images from that site.

    Site 2: purebred-dog.com
    Admin/Content administration/File Upload Preferences:

    main directory
    /www/eh****/public_html/purebred-dog/images/
    http://purebred-dog.com/images/
    image properties: style=“border: 0;” alt=“image”

to publish an entry - add an image
    click on ‘file chooser” icon
    Red tab - Upload File
browse works but upload does not
Black tab - main directory is pointing correctly to the “main directory” for purebred-dog.com

    Not sure if this helps….

Under the “content” tab when I open the File Manager I can view to images for each corresponding site.  The file upload does not work is what the issue is there.

Ok I think I found the issue.

It’s was an IE8 windows 7 security update on the 10th.

I checked in Windows Vista on another computer and everything is working fine.  So I went back to my computer and I logged on in firefox and everything is working fine.

    Any suggestions?

So to confirm, this only happens with IE8 after a recent upgrade? Other browsers are working fine?

    RikBell,

Rather than a security update issue it looks more lightly you are running into this bug

    Does that look like it?

That is exactly the behavior I am seeing.  The only difference is that I had no issues with IE8 until the most recent security update last week.

So since I’m still on 2.0.1 do you think updrading to 2.1.3 will resolve this issue?

It certainly can’t hurt, yes. There were a few user agent issues fixed, if I recall. Can you try that?
