Hmm, also—maybe your comment means more than I think.

Did you lose abilities other than search, by clearing cache? If so, again something is not set up correctly in that case, but it can be returned with a calm approach.

Waiting to hear just what your situation is. Take a breath 😉, then write it one thing at a time, thanks.

Yes, the pages/results that are being pulled dynamically into other sections of the site in a list, the links for those pages are no longer working.
I found a fix, of ging back into those entries, and mannually adding the URL back into the structure URL field. Unfortunaley, i have 200 or so pages of URLs to update..

Here’s an idea to reduce concern while you fix things, since I think you may have the site live for some people under pressure from administration.

Go to your Admin>General Configuration, and set the first item, ‘Is system on?’ to No. Then submit.

Now only you as Administrator can see the site. Others not logged in this way will get a short ‘Site is down for maintenance’ message.

Do that, and then we’ll try to locate what went wrong—with your general links? But tell us clearly.

    Main navigation is working fine
I am pulling channel entries dynamically into a page:

    http://www.onami.us/index.php/nano-network/contact_a_researcher

these researchers URL are not working as they had been, they are showing up as a 404…

do you see what i’m describing?

Hmm. You used the word ‘structure’. Does this mean you are using the Structure add-on to lay out the site?

grounded, it may help to go on a chat. I’ll put a chat address on a private message for you, if you can use chat? Please say if you want to.

    Ok, what I see is:

—a nice looking list of researchers
—that the first researcher name link I try fails 404 equivalent.

ok, chat coming. I am by the way not experienced with Structure, but let’s see what we can understand, and you can also be working with their support if needed.

Give me a moment, then look at your Private Messages link at top of page here, after you refresh it.

Ok, a brief synopsis of where we are.

grounded and I talked on a chat, and he took some steps. First entering a query on the Structure forum for his issue, he then sat down and churned through replacing all its results manually - looks like some hundreds of personnel page link entries.

I looked after he was done, and the page looks and acts with perfection. I think he was right that he would have this done before anyone noticed, a big effort to keep the site up, sight unseen.

The search issue remains, so presumably we will return to it tomorrow. The things to do are above, checked out via a working model, and I am available for any questions or working it through, chat or forum.

What EE can do to automate a slick solution for the complex search needs here is very nice. I’m impressed.

Good work, grounded. It’s the real thing.

    Regards,
    Clive

Yeah, big headaches today. I’ll post a thread to the Structure support, and wait to get insight on what I ‘could’ have done wrong… Apparently, i need to make sure what I do doesnt mess up the structure first… i’ll be posting back when I hear from Structure.
Also thanks narration for going the xtra mile to help

    Fair enough, grounded.

I don’t see how anything done on the search will affect Structure, but I am sure you want to know how the big upset might have happened, and especially, how to get your automated researcher listing working again.

I’m sure one of us will be here when you’re ready on the search issue, and I am confident in the setup laid out above as a nice and EE-proper way to solve it.

I’ve edited out the false trails, and cleaned up the rapid-written text a bit, so it should be clearer to follow.  Someday, it should live in a doc page example, rather think??

    Clive

So from order from Structure I am suppose to update both EE adn Structure..I am nervous about doing this when the site is live.
    Structure thread - https://structure.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/878-clear-cache-data-in-ee-tools-wiped-out-my-structure-urls-in-a-couple-channels

    I am running -

    EE - v2.1.0 Build 20101220
    Structure - 2.2.4

Is there an update for EE since this version then?
What is the most ‘non-invasive’ method to update the site?
