    Trev,
Actually I have the EE2 textmate bundle in ST2 right now and it’s working fine. I found the above link this mornign and haven’t yet had a chance to give it a shot to compare.

Wow, there’s now Linux and Mac OS X builds of Sublime Text. I had no idea!  Great to have an alternative to Textmate (since development seems fairly slow/stalled).

    PSPad - free and good

I always thought PSPad felt really clunky and old, like it was straight out of Windows 95. Have they updated? 😊

Guess it depends on when you last saw it, it’s certainly not flashy. Just installed Webuilder 2011, looks pretty good actually. Might switch guns.

Quite liberating using lightweight editors after years of Visual Studio then Aptana and Zend. Thanks, I think, to EE you don’t need to get too dirty anymore as most of the heavy lifting is dusted.

I suppose if you’re working with Visual Studio, anything would look good!

Aha. Used to be on the dark side but switched over a few years back.

I’ve lost track. Which side is the ‘dark’ side now? 😊

Love that this thread is still going. A couple of months back I switched to SubmlimeText 2 and installed the ExpressionEngine code pack and haven’t looked back.

TextPad (http://www.textpad.com/)  -  been using it for more than a decade (cost me $10 way back in 1999… its nagware, though, so if you can abide the nagging to “keep evaluating” you can use it free forever).  It’s pretty basic, but it opens nearly instantly (which is why I truly LOATH pretty much every IDE I’ve ever tried) and what features it does come with have all proven incredibly useful.  Over the years I’ve tried every option listed in this thread, plus Netbeans, Eclipse and a few other random editors not listed.  I always come back to TextPad for its pure ease of use and it’s fast and simple interface.

EDIT:  Sorry, SubmlimeText 2 *is* a new one for me—gonna give that a go 😊

I’m currently giving SublimeText 2 a spin (OSX).

An essential is the Package Control addon, allows you to install lots of extra bits for ST2, currently using the ExpressionEngine one, tag matcher, indent guides, html5, a few misc others.

Back in my Windows days, i used to use Notepad++
