Blank screen out of left field...

I just completed a fresh install of EE 2.1.3 a few days ago. Everything went perfectly. I was able to create group names, channels, etc. Today, I am now seeing a blank screen on both the front and back end. I am the super admin, and there are no other users yet.

I searched through the forums, but found nothing that helped. I am running UNIX, PHP version 5.2.13, MySQL version 5.0.89, php memory_limit = 16M. All my directories are in the same place, including the renamed system folder (which is also listed correctly in the index.php file).

I’ve enabled debugging and received the following message:

    A Database Error Occurred

    Error Number: 1142

SELECT command denied to user ‘ee-admin’@‘10.49.7.127’ for table ‘exp_sites’

    SELECT * FROM (`exp_sites`) WHERE `site_id` = 1

    Filename: core/EE_Config.php

    Line Number: 180

MySQL privileges are sufficient, however, I noticed it says there are no tables in the database I created for EE. This seems odd, given that I’ve created things in the EE control panel…. right?

I am brand spankin new to EE. Please help.

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

I ended up completely starting over, database and all. Back to working again.

Would be nice to know how it randomly happened in the first place though.

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, mmcgeeCC!

Since you’re new to the EE forums, have you seen EEWiki:// How to Post a Support Request?

Part of the problem may be the amount of memory you have allocated to PHP. 16M isn’t nearly enough. For instance EngineHosting our sister hosting company allows 64M, and Media Temple allows 99M.

    I’d up it to 64M.

    EEWiki:// HowTo Override Memory Limitations

    Does that help?

The htaccess file gave me an Internal Server Error on the front and back end. I will look into having the server administrator handle it.

So to better understand, is it safe to say that if I cannot increase the memory allocated to PHP that I should not be running EE?

    Thank you for your help.

Yes, please ask them about it.

Not necessarily, but 16 MB really is the minimum these days, and you’re bound to run into that limit from time to time.

Bumped it to 32M, which is the limit. Hopefully it will be sufficient.

I have to say that I’m pretty excited about EE (switching from WP). Just waiting for my “light bulb” moment.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Closed.
