Ok. So now I have installed a fresh copy of EE in a new MAMP site. I have not changed any files and there are write privileges for the world on all the files and directories. And I still get this error when requesting index.php:
“Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.”
What’s happening here? I just purchased a $99 copy of EE and this is my first experience with installing - not good.
Please help.

Are you following the installation instructions? Are you pointing your browser to http://example.com/system/index.php?
