Hi Folks!  Running EE 1.7 here.  I notice that in some forums/ categories, the urls aren’t automatically converted to links.

When I move the thread to a different category, the links appear/auto-linking is back on.

How can I get the non-linking forums back to linking?  I thought the default setting of “Auto-convert URLS…into links” would cover all the forums.

    Thanks!

    Hi, focusfusion -

The default settings are only used when you first create a forum. You’ll need to edit the forums specifically (look in the Forum module admin, in the list of forums - each line has an “edit” link.  And set converting links to on.

    Does that help?

Those links are on as well.  Still not working.

Wait a minute, I think I see the problem.  The difference between the working and nonworking forums is that the working one has “only allow safe HTML” and the other one has “convert HTML into character entities”.  That must be the interference.

Is there, by chance, a way to have them both?  Auto link conversion and allowing character entities?  We have a lot of scientific notation going on.

Let me know, either way.  Thanks!

Yes, that’s the difference. If you want links you must allow at least some HTML, “convert HTML into character entities” does not, it converts all HTML code into plain text.

We have a lot of scientific notation going on.

That shouldn’t be too much of an issue in this day of ubiquitous Unicode, I think. Have you tried it?
