    Using EE 1.6.9
    Discussion Forum Module 2.1.2
    Forum address: http://visualpeacemakers.org/community/forums

I have an isolated user account that when logged in is unable to see our forums regardless of OS or browser. His account is not banned or blocked in any way from using the forums.  If I make him a Forum Administrator he can then view the forums but I don’t want him to be an admin. Other members’ accounts are working just fine.

When logged in and accessing the forums it only displays these links at the top:
“View New Posts ·  View Today’s Active Topics ·  View Pending Posts ·  Mark All Posts as Read”.

Clicking on any of those links results in the following error:
    “”“”“”“”“”
The following errors were encountered:  You are not permitted to search
    “”“”“”“”“”

Does anybody have an idea as to what might be causing this?

    Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums,

Since you’re new to the EE forums, have you seen EEWiki:// How to Post a Support Request?

Can you replicate the problem when logged in as him? Any sort of firewall?

    Sue,

    Thanks!  Nice to be here.

I was able to replicate the issue in multiple browsers and multiple OS’s from different geographical locations.  I wouldn’t think a firewall would be an issue.

    visualpeace,

If you head to Members in your main CP and find him under the View Members item.
Is he part of the correct member group?

yes he is in the correct member group.  Actually all our members can post in our forums.

Has that happened suddenly, has it been working before? My suggestion would be to upgrade to the latest version and build of both EE and the Forum module and upload a fresh set of theme files as well.

You could also delete that user and simply create a new one.

So I did some more testing and was going to recreate his account but saw that the new account also could not see our forums.  The member group is “Premium”.  None of our “Premium” members could access our forums.  I looked through to see if permissions were checked for that member group in the forum module and they weren’t checked… “DOH!” It is now checked but they are still not seeing the forums.

Is Discussion Forum Module 2.2.0 compatable with EE 1.6.9?  Not sure that I want to update to EE 1.7 just yet.

    Hi, visualpeace.

What you’re seeing is due to some of the settings you have for that particular forum. Which setting did you change? There is a global one, and one for each forum..

I changed the permissions for each of our forums to allow “Premium” members to View/Post/Reply/etc..  The global was already set correctly.  (Screen shots attached. One of a forum permission the other of the global.)

    visualpeace,

Also check the permissions for the category the forums are in

ok yeah that is what did it.  I didn’t know there was a third place for permissions.  After I set the category permissions it worked.  Thanks for your help.
