Joomla and Drupal have modules that prepare content for a mobile web context.

Does EE2 have anything similar? I’ve checked Devot:ee and found plugins for mobile device detection only.

Or perhaps am I asking the wrong question?

I’m fairly new to mobile web development, but my thought is that if you have mobile device detection, you can use it to redirect users to a different template group, which is where you build the mobile friendly version of the site with separate html/css and modified content delivery.

yes - there are 2 general methods:

    1. As rbboyl suggested you can redirect to a different template group with a different stylesheet
    2. The other way is to use the same templates but use a different stylesheet to reorder/hide/modify presentation as required
