    Upgrading from
    ExpressionEngine v2.1.0 - Build: 20100810 to v2.1.3

I followed the instructions from: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update.html

As the admin I can still see the front end of my site, but I can’t access the backend.  I just get a blank page.  I’m sure this has something to do with me setting up my sys folder above the web root.  When I originally installed EE I followed the instructions here: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/general/system_above_webroot.html

Not sure what other information to give.

    thanks

    1. did you clear caches.
    2. in your index.php in the root of your site - where is the variable $system_path = pointing to? about line 26?
    3. when you used the instructions to setup above web root - have you replaced and checked your configuration in the admin.php file (opr whatever you called it?) do you perhaps need to re-create this file as part of the upgrade process?

I thought I cleared the caches, but when I read your question I immediately questioned whether I did or not so now I don’t feel confident saying I did. ugh!

The variable $system_path =  in the root of the site’s index file points to the system folder.  It is the same as it was before I tried the upgrade (I double checked against the bkup files I downloaded)

The admin.php file I created looks the same as well.  To be sure I renamed the files on the server (index and admin) and uploaded the copies from the site bkup I downloaded prior to doing the upgrade.

Before I did the upgrade I downloaded an entire site bkup, should I just go ahead and do a restore and try again?

Appreciate your guidence.  Since this is my first upgrade I’ve no doubt I goofed somewhere.  Just now sure if it’s worth troubleshooting or just redoing.

    Hey nevsie

I went ahead and did a restore and then did another version update.  Everything went fine.  I have no idea what I did wrong on the first attempt, but what I did learn is DON’T do an update with it’s late at night and your focus might be OFF! LOL

Thanks for responding to mp plea for help:-)
