I am new to ExpressionEngine and could really do with some help on something, please.

When I create a new user, or a new user signs up, I would like on of the options on the new member form to give each person a list of possible email newsletters they can subscribe to.

If for example someone checked that they wanted to be subscribed to the “Newsline” and “Prayerline” Emails, then they would automatically be entered onto those Mailing Lists, so next time one of those emails is sent out, they receive it.

I would really appreciate some help on this, as cannot find the details anywhere.

The Mailing List Module is a fairly lightweight and does what it say son the tin. It doesn’t offer this integration unfortunately.

There are a few things you could do however. One is that you could add those newsletter checkboxes via the member profile fields which will show up in the registration form.

Then you could create a template which would give you a list of members who signed up. Then you would manually add those people to the lists every so often or just before you send a newsletter.

Alternatively there is Solspace’s User Module which allows you to integrate the mailing list signup into the registration form
