I have EE Version 1.6.8 and MSM Version 1.1 (Build: 20081024). The “primary” domain for MSM is no longer active, but I can’t delete it because it is primary. I would like to change the primary domain to another, active domain. I am considering upgrading to EE 2.x and want to know if I should “rehome” MSM before the upgrade, after the upgrade, or during the upgrade.
What is the procedure for changing the primary MSM domain?

I am afraid there is no built-in or supported way to change the primary site, as it were. You’d have to manipulate the database directly (be sure to make & verify a backup before doing anything else, please!)

Thanks! Can you think of any reason why it would be better to do this before, after, or during an upgrade to EE 2.x?

Personally, as it is not supported I would try the split before an upgrade.
