I have been experiencing permanent inconsistencies with the Publish Layouts since playing with it for 2 days now. They just don’t hold the layout as defined and saved.

    1. The order of some custom fields is changing.
    2. The “Show this field by default?” from the definition of custom field is ignored.
    3. Even if i set the custom filed to be “shown” in the publish page itself and save it, it does’n hold the status.
    3. The width of fields doesn’t hold. I drag two fields into one row but next time i visit the Publis Page they are back in two rows.

    Using EE 2.1.3 Build:20101220.

    Thanks for help.

    Paul,

Was this a fresh install or an upgrade from a previous version or build?
Are you using any third-party add-ons?

It was a new install. I tried to swich off some of the addons i thought they might interfere but no change.

I somehow solved the issue for a moment via limiting my requirements.

There seem to be a problem that some of the default CF (like Title, Entry Date or Status) don’t like the custom CFs to be above them. Or i don’t know.. .)

    Hi Paul,

Is this occurring for all member groups or just one? Which theme are you using? Can you please create a new channel with a single default custom field (textarea), temporarily disable all extensions and then test this again.

    Cheers

    Greg

    Hi Greg,

    * memeber groups - currently only Super Admin & Admin group has access to CP
    * very default theme

I did as you say + disabled extensions (but not other addons)

Still the same problem. The Textarea field was placed above Title and URL Title. Saved for those 2 groups. When i return to post an entry, the Textarea is below Title and URL Title.

Can you try to disable extensions globally for testing? If this is not a live site you could also try the newly released EE 2.1.4 Beta.

I disabled them all but no change. I will check the EE 2.1.4 beta when it’s available.. Meanwhile, thanks for the support!

It is available already. Download EE 2 and you’ll be presented with a radio box on the license page that allows you to download the Beta instead.
