This question may be related to a resolved thread.

“If you saved your templates as flat files in 1.x, upload the contents of your 1.x system/templates/ directory to system/expressionengine/templates/<site_short_name>/ and verify permissions on the templates folder is set to 777. The updater will sync your templates with the database and move the old files to a folder within the templates directory for archival purposes.”

    <site_short_name>  =  ??

    thanks.

    Peter ,

Normally would be default_site so system/expressionengine/templates/default_site/

    Does that help?

In my 1.69 install I have many different folders named after my template groups
Should I put these folders into:

    . . . system/expressionengine/templates/

    ??

I realize I am likely over complicating things - just need a bit of reassuring.  Appreciate it.

    log cabin,

No you should create that folder if it doesn’t exist already in templates and then move all those folders named after your template groups inside system/expressionengine/templates/default_site/

It goes without saying to backup everything first

Let us know how you get on

    I got it done.

    Experience:

    - I had a template error during install (redundant files no longer needed) - ignored

    - Ran into issues with field type errors but found a helpful thread - updated custom field types in new install/cp

    - Installed a Flickr plugin that I had used / coded for

    - Installed Word Limit plugin

    - Fixed {tags} for said Flickr module + some others that had syntax changes between versions 1 & 2

    - deleted “index.php” from some links as EE2 didn’t recognize / fulfill these references
(is there a preference I can change? - instead of changing code?)

    - still need to tackle ImageReSizer issue - photos modified in code using this plugin in EE1 don;t work in EE2

    - still need to figure out how to save Templates as files - getting an error when updating templates

Overall the EE2 is working and was not too painful to undertake.  I like the layout of the new control panel.  For anybody new to EE - seeing Channels, Categories, FieldGroups, and Status Groups - all lumped together should help them to logically realize the essence of this software . . . though I still have yet to fully wrap my head around it!
