I have image resizing on and a max of 350-350 for the thumbs.
If I upload a square or close to square pic, it seems to work fine…that is, the thumb is about 350 both ways.

But if I upload a pic which is very wide, the width does not come down to 350…...it stays quite wide, although not as wide as the original.

newest 1.7 and discussion forum installed.

    Notice this test post:

the wide chart is close to the regular size, while the baby pic is resized accurately….

Could it be that EE does not process a pic if it is less than the 350 (setting) in one direction?

    Craig,

You are correct in your assumption. EE has what’s called a master dimension which defaults to height.
To change this you need to open system/core/core.image_lib.php and take a look at line 29

var $master_dim = 'height'; // height, width, or auto (auto adjusts the dimension based on whether the image is taller then wider or vice versa)

Note changing this affects the whole of your EE site.

Let us know if that helps

    Ah, thanks…...an undocumented feature!
Since there are no user image uploads except in my forum (and wiki), I shouldn’t have a problem with the rest of the site. I don’t use thumbs elsewhere, but rather upload an image in the proper size and use it that way.

You can close this thread out. Thanks!

Glad to see that explains it. Please post again as needed.
