    Dear members,

    I’m new to EE and I like it very much. Now I have created a channel in which I have a custom file field (image). When uploading an image I notice EE generates a thumb under the ‘_thumb’ folder. Is this only meant for the backend of EE? I want to generate thumbnails of a certain size, to show on the frontend of my website. I managed to show the thumbnails using these tags;

    {image}{path}_thumbs/thumb_{filename}.{extension}{/image}

    But the thumbnails are not the right size.

    What is the best solutions for this? Can I change the size of the automatically generated thumbnails? I prefer not to use external plugins or anything for this.

    Thank you!

    Rein

    Hi Rein,

    The thumbnails you are seeing are most likely for the thumbnails in the file manager. There are a number of plugins that can help you out with your image resizing needs. Check these out:
    http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/image-sizer/
    http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/ed-imageresizer/
    http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/ce-image/

    The first two are free, and the third one (which I’m the author of 😉) is a commercial plugin. It is a bit more feature rich and robust, but one of the free ones may meet your needs.

    Here is a simple feature comparison chart of the three if you are interested: http://www.causingeffect.com/software/ee/ce_img#feature_comparison

    Thanks for the reply! I’m actually about to purchase your plugin; The filter and watermark are absolutely welcome.

    Thanks for the assist, Aaron.  I was eyeing your CE Image plugin myself, you’ve done some pretty neat things with it.

    Rein - are you all set and have solutions?

    And to answer your original question - as Aaron said - those _thumbs are for the CP only, yes. =)

    Thanks!
