I am seeing this error in my CP…

“An unexpected error occurred attempting to download the current ExpressionEngine version number. Please visit your Download Account to verify you are on the current version. If this error persists, please contact your system administrator”

    Running:

    v2.1.3
    Build:  20101220

    What’s going on?

    Thanks!

    Graham

It looks like for some reason your server is unable to connect expressionengine.com to retrieve the latest available version number. This might be an intermittent issue, perhaps a Firewall? It’s probably safe to ignore. As the message says, please contact your server admin in case the issue persists.

    Hi Ingmar,

    Thanks for the response.

It’s started recently, though I’m not sure if anything has changed server-side. Can you be more specific about what my admin should look for?

    Cheers,

    Graham

I got this few moments ago, and as I see on twitter, few other people got this also. I doubt we are all on the same server?
    thanx

Edit: I trust mr Carl, so I removed the notice http://goo.gl/XCZvi

I was doing a demonstration for a client yesterday and it looked bad to see an error notice popping up. I don’t want to have to lamely say, “Um, ignore that, it’s probably not important”... Also, it appears for every user with a CP login, which, again, is potentially scary and confusing for clients.

Can this auto check be disabled if that’s the case?

I can see it only as a super admin, as a normal user I dont see it. at least something 😊

Oh, true, I was only checking super admins… Still, if this is not critical, I’d like to just turn it off. Better yet, I’d like to know what’s going on…

You can turn it off in
Admin > General configuration > New Version Auto Check > No

    Thanks for the assist, Davor.

Graham, the problem is very intermittent.. as Davor mentioned, you can turn off New Version Auto Check. That can also speed up the loading of the control panel.

Don’t hesitate to post again as needed.
