I was just reading through the documentation into caching and it had a handy little comment :

We call it Dynamic Page Caching because the system will clear itself automatically when certain events happen.

However there is no explanation of what these mystical events might be. Is there a list somewhere?

    Thanks.

I am afraid there is no list. It’s a number of events that are like to change the contents of a page, mainly posting a new article or comment.

OK, seems strange that you can’t provide a list of events that would clear the cache.

Anyway I have a number of questions then :

    1. Would updating the entry clear the cache?
    2. Would updating the data in any embedded templates clear the embedded template cache, the main template cache or both?

I’m using EE simply as a CMS with sidebars etc. Data won’t be updated often. I would like to know that if I use template caching on the parent but not the child templates will the parent cache be cleared when the child is updated?

    Thanks.

You can mix and match caching.. in other words, if you have a page that is cached, you can have an embed in that that page that isn’t, or vice versa.

Updating the entry should clear the cache. No the parent should be left alone when the child is updated.

    Does that help?

Thanks Sue, I think that clears it up.
