Im debugging an error and was advised to disable all the plugins, a reasonable request.

I went into module management and was surprised to find no disable button, just remove.
When I clicked it I was warned that all the data associated with this module will be deleted.

I cant imagine that we have to delete large amounts of content to do proper debugging.
    What am I missing?

    Thanks,

    alvar,

I have since answered that thread but I can confirm that is not what you were advised to do

Try without using any third party plugins first.

What Sue meant was to remove any code in your template that was referencing a plugin by way of reducing your template down to pinpoint the offending culprit

Apologies if you took another meaning from this.

    I gotcha, that makes sense.

I come from a wordpress background, and whenever there is a major problem the first step is to disable all the plugins.

Are the plugins in ee sandboxed in such a way that that would never be necessary?
Just trying to understand better what happens when you have to troubleshoot.

    Thanks!

    alvar,

Yes plugins are only initiated from the actual template.

Extensions and modules are initiated from the CP.

Extensions can be disabled globally without loss of data but not disabled individually without guarantee of loss of data

Does that clear things up a bit?
