This question may be related to a resolved thread.

Hi there! I am new to Expression Engine but am a long time user of various other types of content management systems. I am having some major trouble though. I got into the Expression Engine Christmas special with a nifty freelancer license and installed it a couple of days ago but I can’t for the life of me make heads or tails of this thing. I set up the database, installed it and thought everything was hunkydory but when I go to the main page of my site, it’s completely blank. I don’t know what to do. I need to get my site up pronto. I tried the server checker and it turned out fine (I’m using GoDaddy btw if that has any bearing). I tried to debug it but am not sure anything came up. I checked the PHP memory and it says 64 MB which from what I’ve read is fine. I also checked my extensions (it says I have none but they’re disabled anyways). What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? I will also note that I do not have any articles up yet (I’m still trying to figure that one out via the documentation), but I figure it should still show something right?

My url is http://www.jbridgesdesign.com. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

i didn’t see you say anything about setting up any html code in a template, btw.

i believe your homepage to be by default (unless you changed it)

    template group: Site
    template: index

what html is in this template?

take a look to Train-ee.com and other sites with tutorials that might jump start you

    Hi, jbridgesdesign.

During the install process, you have the option to install a set of default templates, called the Agile Theme. If you didn’t install that theme, you have to manually create channels, custom fields, etc. EE doesn’t do that for you.

Since you’re just starting out, what I’d recommend is starting over and this time pick the Agile templates. This way you have an example site to fiddle around with until you get more comfortable with using EE.

    Does that help?
