Greetings. I think I’ve painted myself into a corner, so I’m hoping to get some help on my options at this point.
Awhile back I finished a site for a client. You’ll note it’s actually found in a sub-directory. Since the company has fairly significant contrasts in divisions, they generally structure “division redesigns” rather than full site redesigns (unfortunately for us!).
In hindsight I should have installed EE (1.6.8) in the root directory, however it was installed here: mpechicago.com/coffee/system
While the site works well and the client is very happy with everything, we are now getting ready to design/develop a second division (to be based closely to the Coffee site’s EE templates).
We purchased Multiple Sites Manager specifically with the purpose of managing each division. However, I’m not realizing we might be stuck at the moment. Since MPE is structured to have a “home” page, and each division can be considered a sub-directory, we need to have the new division fall into the URL as so:
http://www.mpechicago.com/food-chemical
However under the current install, the Sites Manager only allows us to create a new site here:
http://www.mpechicago.com/coffee/food-chemical
Obviously it’s fairly critical we get the URLs accurate for each division…
It seems the only option I have at this point is to move the /system/ folder out of /coffee/ and into the root… while this might seem simple enough (change a few config paths, etc), the twist is the client has an old coffee “site” including all old files within the /coffee/ folder which need to stay put (redirects, seo, yada yada)... since EE automatically creates the URL folders for structure, wouldn’t that be an issue?
Furthermore, is there some way to tweak the Multiple Sites Manager to be able to build new sites outside of the /coffee/ directory, to get the accurate URL?
Somewhat long-winded question, I apologize. Any help is appreciated.
