I just finished my first EE site and it ROCKS!  I have several channels setup and I want to limit client to EDIT only and disable PUBLISH access on a couple single entry channels.  For example,

    CHANNELS

    Home (single entry)
    Employment (client can add/edit entries)
    News (client can add/edit entries)
    Services (client can add/edit entries)
    Contact (single entry)

I know how to limite channel access for a member group under Channel Assignment and Channel Posting Privleges, but I only see option for “Can post and edit entries in:  Home” YES/NO.  How can I make a channel with just a single EDIT only access only?

    Thanks,

    Bryan

i noticed this question was asked before without an answer.  Is there a way?

Hi, Bryan. In that case, I’d recommend using something like SafeCracker. It isn’t a free add-on, but should meet your needs. They have a forum where you can ask pre-sales questions.

Thanks Sue.  I have another post open to the community as I am trying to find an ecommerce option for EE2.  The post is at http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/177729/.  Can you help in any way?  I have a site with about 500 products for a client I need to develop and we are going to use EE2 for the CMS.  Ideally I want to have something that will work right within EE2.

We answer questions in a FIFO queue, so you’ll need to wait until that thread comes up again. But I can say one thing.. Brilliant Retail is in beta. 😊

Bryan, I think you are looking for this accessory:
    http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/hidden-channels/

It is free. It lets you hide selected channels from the publish dropdown.

Thanks Rory.  I actually just tried that about 2 hours ago and it does work well.  I wish EE had the PUBLISh and EDIT permissions separate in EE2.  Then you could set this up with outside add-ons.

I agree, this should be included. You can block a given member group from publishing AND editing, but not one or the other, which is what we need!

I need the exact same thing for single entry channels.  My home page on this site has a unique layout so I needed custom channel fields for it.  I really only wanted the client to EDIT the data and not be able to Publish.  The HIDDEN CHANNEL add-on does work but there are still ways they can publish via the breadcrumbs if they tried.

    Thanks for the assist, Rory.

bgarrant - your best bet would be a Feature Request. You could see if there was an existing one or create your own, and post your reasoning behind why you need to make the changes.

In the meantime, since you do have a third party solution, closing the thread. Don’t hesitate to post again as needed.
