    Hi guys,

We’re looking at offering hosting to our clients again (it’s been a while!) and also are investigating ssh based EE deployments for staging and dev (and possibly live, if we’re feeling brave).

We’ve got a list of hosts we’re looking at, but I thought I’d ask you guys if you had any recommendations. The server needs to be UK based, managed, and let us ssh in, as well as having WHM/cPanel (or Plesk etc) either available or pre-installed and configured.

    Our current list looks like:
    Clook (vServer 1)
    EzPz (VPS-1024)
    Clustered.net (VPS25 or 70 Managed)
    Memset (possibly VM2000)

Anyone on, or used any of these? It’d also be really interesting to hear if you’ve had any experience with ssh deployment scripts for EE (including syncing/updating the database)

    Thanks,

    Hi Rob

I’ve used Clook for 6 years now (in fact nearly 7 years!) and they have been everything I need from a host. During that time I’ve only ever had one major outage when the server hardware decide to throw a wobbly but that was quickly replaced. Support tickets are answered in minutes 24/7 which is great, eg updating an SSL cert usually takes just a couple of minutes from initial request to completion.

EE runs just fine on Clook shared accounts as well, but as you’d be VPS’ing it you can obviously set things up yourself. Can’t speak for SSH as I never have need for it.

    Thanks Rob,

Yeah I’ve heard nothing but good things about Clook, my only thought is that their VPS are pretty expensive compared to a lot of alternative similar spec solutions.

Yes the VPS isn’t cheap, but “you pays ya money and takes your choice”. Is peace of mind worth a few quid extra a month? A couple of years back when DSVR (remember them?) went downhill I know there were a lot of refugees who moved to Clook VPS’s because of the reliability and support.

Flump are another good host, they also run http://www.ukdedicated.com/ who do full servers from £99/month (no VPS though). I’ve never used them but a chap I work with has a dedi there I work on frequently and that’s always up and fast, plus support seems to be good.

I’ll have a look at Flump, thanks!
