    Hello

I want to buy & use ExpressionEngine in order to 1) Run my personal website & 2) Learn from the code/application so that my future CI based apps will hopefully (someday) end up as awesome as EE/mojomotor/pyrocms/etc.

The problem I’m having is, With the current bundle/xmas offer I can get the freelancer edition for $79 & some other random mac software I won’t use(windows pc) but the features offered in this edition aren’t that much better than free alternatives when you consider the license restrictions.

So my question is this, To those with CI development experience & EE experience: Is expressionengine freelancer edition worth that much money to learn from as a student? OR should I just take the free option & use a typical wordpress-esque solution?

    Thanks for your time everyone

I just converted my personal site over to EE and the biggest reason I decided to make the switch was because of some of the addons and in the future I want to use the multi site manager.  As a learning tool I would recommend mojo or pyrocms as EE has abstracted a lot of the CI core and where as the other two scripts are build more on top like a normal app you create would be.

btw you should get a mac. 😊 Some of the software in the bundle is awesome.

Thanks for your input Eric. Believe me if I could afford a mac I’d happily get the pack in a flash.
