    Hi,
I am completely new to EE and still figuring things out. My first question: How do I remove unnecessary fields from the publish page for a particular channel?

I see the ability to (what looks like) temporarily hide fields, but they come back and I would prefer them to be invisible permanently for all users. For example, “Comment Expiration Date” is irrelevant for this particular channel.

    Thank you!

After you hide the field, you have to save the layout for whatever member group will be using it.

So, in your case you would click the hideous eyeball next to “Comment Expiration Date” to hide it; scroll down a bit until you see the “Publish Layout” area; select the member groups you want to use the layout; click “Save Layout”; pray it all works because the control panel in 2.x is buggy as hell.

    Hope that helps.
