Hi There,

I’m completely new to SVN/Beanstalk - and a 6 month old EE newborn.

I would like to setup an SVN environment but am a little confused about how everything fits together.

Ideally I would like to create a setup similar to this:
- Live server (Hosted Unix Server)
- Staging server (Local Mamp Pro Server for client signoff)
- Local Machine (Local testing and when on the road - MAMP)

Specific questions:
- Does the master copy live at Beanstalk from which I check out a copy?
- Do I use Versions to copy everything between the various servers?
- Does versions/SVN copy MySQL databases?

Sorry if these questions are easy, any help would be much appreciated.

I noticed that this post hadn’t been answered (I found it as I am currently setting up a dev and production environment using subversion and beanstalk).

But, there still isn’t a “easy” solution, so I’m playing with a few things. The best issue (IMO) is that EE changes the database structure and stores logic within some tables (i.e. channel urls). In terms of root and server URLs this add-on seems useful: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/reelocate

I’d be interested to hear how you ended up setting up your environment in the end, as I’m using the same tools are you are.

There have been a number of articles written on Version Control with ExpressionEngine. This is the most recent one that I have seen by John Faulds.

We’ve actually moved our web business over to Concrete5 since that post was made so can’t help you sorry.

But like Marcus said, there are a few articles written - we also made a request to Ryan Ireland for a video series on this as it’s really important (in our opinion).

Maybe you could also do the same?
