This question may be related to a resolved thread.

I just upgraded from 2.1.1 to 2.1.2 and now I can’t access the Template Manager or anything in the Design section of the CP. It only shows up as a blank page.

Everything else seems to be working ok. I have already re-uploaded the /templates directory and removed the template files (flat files) from the server.

    Please help!

Hi, yankeyhotel. Can you get to:
CP Home > Design > Template Manager > Global Template Preferences

If you can, what are your settings there?

Are you using the default CP theme?

Have you seen: EEWiki:// HowTo Determine Memory Limits

    -and-

    EEWiki:// HowTo Override Memory Limitations

How much memory is allocated to PHP?

Are you using any third party add-ons, if so, which ones?

No I can’t get there. Everything is just a white screen in the design section.

I am using the default theme and have tried switching themes and it doesn’t fix the issue

Also I don’t know if it’s related but last night I also found the categories would not reorder and the plus sign next to the add button in the header was gone.

    My PHP Memory is 32MB.

    [EDIT]
Had my memory upped to 64MB, still doesn’t work.

Can you please try to turn on error reporting? Perhaps we can get a meaningful error message that way.

Error Reporting is on and I am still getting a white page with nothing in it (not even html). Any other ideas? Should I just restore the old site and start over? I have seen a lot of issues with the update from 2.1.1 to 2.1.2.

Also, unrelated, but I saw in the info on tech support that bumping your post will put you at the bottom of the list. Does that count for editing your post with new information?

    thanks

    yankeyhotel,

Can you confirm you used the version update docs as opposed to the build update docs.

Did you update your theme folder?

I have seen a lot of issues with the update from 2.1.1 to 2.1.2.

What other issues are you experiencing?

Not editing a post no. But adding new reply will

These are the instructions i used to upgrade http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update.html

Did you update your theme folder?

    Yes, twice.

What other issues are you experiencing?

Also I don’t know if it’s related but last night I also found the categories would not reorder and the plus sign next to the add button in the header was gone.

I am interested in hearing your reply. But unless it is quick (not another 5hrs), I think I am just going to reload the site. I don’t really have the luxury of wasting any more time trying to troubleshoot.

    yankeyhotel,

Did you delete the themes folder (after backing up, of course) and re-upload it from scratch? I would also check your server’s PHP error log, as it may still be suppressing an error from you. Let us know how you progress!

yeah, I deleted the themes folder both times before I uploaded it again.

I looked for an error log, but there was nothing on it. I have not been able to figure anything else out.

With EE 1.6.x we would see this sort of thing when there was an issue with a plugin sometimes. Say we forgot to include a plugin, or other add-on’s files in the new files during the update. Replacing the add-on file (or fixing it’s file permissions) would solve the issue.

You got anything that might be missing in the third_party folder? Some CP add-on that EE is looking for and can’t find?

Its a long shot, but that’s the first thing I would look into; after I confirmed that all of the /themes/cp_themes files actually survived uploading.

At one point, I couldn’t access the Admin > Channel or Content Administration screens: they were just white. Turns out that my ./system/expressionengine/controllers/cp/admin_content.php was missing. It hadn’t been uploaded or something. Don’t know why. Everything else in the CP worked fine.

Maybe your issue is similar. Your ./system/expressionengine/controllers/cp/design.php file might be missing.

    Thanks everyone for the help.

I have just moved on. Since, it was taking such a long time between replies I just went ahead on Friday and restored the old site and tried again. I ended up with the exact some issue. So, I restored again and have been developing the site on version 2.1.1. Not ideal I know, but deadlines are deadlines.

I saw the other replies over the weekend. @Michael Hessling the file is there (I saved a backup of the errored site), thanks for the suggestion.

And @Kurt Deutscher that might well have been it. I looked back and there was a module theme that was missing in the cp_theme folder. I will be on the lookout for it in the future.

I am a little gun shy now, more from the lag in getting support than anything else.

Again thanks for the help and the check up to see how things are going.

We apologize for the lag time in support. We work on a FIFO queue, so if someone adds to your post it puts your post to the bottom of the queue. We did release 2.1.3 yesterday which appears to fix a number of issues that were caused by problems in EE2.1.2. If you’re running OK on 2.1.1, you might want to consider upgrading to 2.1.3 on a local install, making sure you don’t run into other issues. In the mean time, would you like to keep this thread open, or have us close it?

Thank you everyone for the help. I was never able to figure out the problem exactly, though the input was helpful.

I just upgraded to 2.1.3 successfully!  So, I am happy about that.

The only issue I see at this point is that the categories in the control panel are not updating when I change their order. If I reset my cache then I can see it reflected on the main site, but the order is wrong in the display of the control panel.

Also, could you point me in the right direction for changing the URL/domain of an EE installation. I have been developing it under a test server ie “http://ip_address/~site” and need to change it to “http://www.mydomain.com”

thanks again and everyone have a Merry, Merry
