we have EE v2.1.1 Build 20101020

in Google Chrome, the control panel doesn’t load css. It works great in all other browsers though. Super weird.

UPDATE 3/25/2011: this solution worked for me: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/176006/P18/#873122

PS - based on comment in this thread I added this line to php.ini with no luck:

    zlib.output_compression Off

    Any other suggestions?

    Chuck,

Can you try turning off Enable GZIP Output? in your Output and Debugging Preferences

Admin > System Preferences > Output and Debugging Preferences

Does the stylesheet load in the frontend of your site?

Just tried, no luck in the Control Panel.

Yes - frontend of the website looks/works great. It’s just the cpanel that doesn’t load correctly in Chrome.

Try it in Opera, too. I had a similar problem not long ago where certain pages would load blank due to a missing HTML tag. IE, Firefox, and Safari loaded fine, but not Chrome or Opera.

    Chuck,

I can’t replicate this in my own Chrome. Do you have any add-ons installed like Morphine etc?

Also note that EE2.1.2 was released the other day which would be a recommended upgrade.

@John Thanks. I’ll update right away.

@grramps - do you remember off the top of your head what tag was missing? I’m not sure how I’ll validate since it’s login only) without walking through the entire thing.

    Hi Chuck,

Please update this thread when you have completed the upgrade. Do you have many extensions installed in your Chrome?

    Cheers

    Ok, I’ve updated to 2.1.3 & it’s working in Chrome! Sort of…..

Now the drop downs don’t work (in the header). The bummer is that these are sort of important since there’s no other way to access the menus.

To answer your q Greg: I only have 3 addons: lipsum generator, x-marks, & amazon wish list. None of them do anything to the page w/in clicking them (I think).

    Thanks

Chuck, are you using one of the extra themes, and if so have you updated those themes to the 2.1.3 release point (they’re low on your download page at Ellis).

I’ve been having no problem with anything on latest Google Chrome beta channel, but I know it can happen with symptoms as you show, if the CP themes get out of sync.

    Regards,
    Clive

I was using ‘default’ theme. I just downloaded the additional themes for kicks & giggles but some of th. Default still doens’t work.

I also tried downgrading jQuery to 1.4.1 since Structure requires it. No go there either.

Your not alone… I’m getting this too.

I’m on 2.1.1 build 20101020, and Chrome 9.0.597.19 beta. I have a box running stable here that I will test later too.

I have actually been tracking a weird stylesheet related issue I have been seeing in Chrome for a few months. View the source of the control panel in Chrome then click on the theme stylesheet to view the source of that one, and it gives an error:

    Disallowed Key Characters.

Tracked this to it not liking the

    &

in the url, change them to just &, and the error goes away.

But until now, that error didn’t seem to actually cause any problems, so I just let it slide. The site got the problems today with has had no changes made to it at all, no upgrades etc, and around 3 weeks ago it worked fine, today when I logged in it wasn’t working. So the only one I can point the finger at here is Chrome updates.

I have a few sites here runnign this and earlier builds, so I’ll do some tests later when I get chance to see if I’m getting the problem on any other sites.

Just tested this on another site running the same build and it works. No ruling out any configuration differences there though. One thing I will also be checking into is the one with the broken stylesheet even though it’s running from teh same servers is really very slow in all browsers even if the stylesheets load. 5+ second pauses for page loads in the CP. But it’s on the same server as all the other sites.

Checked all the usuals like cache path being writable etc.

    Dear Chuck,

Having version 2.1.3 installed should fix this problem.

Personally, I use Google Chrome exclusively and have not experienced these errors save for the & Neekster mentioned in version 2.1.1 which is corrected in the update previously mentioned.

It would be prudent to re-upload the latest themes as file corruption is possible. Be sure to remove the current “themes/cp_themes” directory first before doing so. Note: Remember to backup any personal modifications

I hope this clears things up for you. Please do let us know if there is something else we can help you with.

    Sincerely,

    Barry Cogan

    @Barry

Ok - it’s been a few months & I just wanted to check back in to see if others have had this same issue. I’m still having same chrome problems. I’ve done everything above (installed 2.1.3, re-installed themes/cp_themes, delete & overwrite themes/javacsript folder, etc).

Maybe it’s specific to my installation??

Is there any small chance I could give a moderator access to the site to check it out? It would be super helpful.
