    Hi, mwdesign -

I hate that you’re running into this to the point of starting over. How many blog entries do you have?

Yes, you can back-date entries by simply changing those in the entry date calendar, see the attached screenshot.

Unfortunately this may bite you again on future updates, especially if you keep running into a max_execution_time issue.  So you may want to get that local install up and running so that you can get past this.

    Hi mwdesign,

I just wanted to clarify - have you tried using Safari exclusively, starting from the “deleted database” step you outlined before and going all the way through the update process? It’s important that you try this because Firefox often masks any server errors that appear.

An update—over the past six months, I installed MAMP to try getting my site/blog to run locally, and I tried several times to upgrade from v.1 to v.2, but I had no luck and I finally gave up.

So now I’m trying to do a clean install of v.2 with a new database,  but now I’m getting this error:

    A Database Error Occurred
Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.

    Filename: controllers/wizard.php

    Line Number: 1512

Sigh. ExpressionEngine and I don’t seem to be a good match.

    mwdesign,

Are you running MAMP under default settings? The reason I as is because “out-of-the-box” MAMP runs Apache and MySQL on non-standard IP ports, 8888 for Web and 8889 for MySQL vs the *usual* IP ports of 80 for web and 3306 for MySQL. If you haven’t changed the default ports, you will need to include the port number as part of your Database Server hostname in the installation process, for example: localhost:8889

Does that help solve the issue you’re having?

    Cheers,
