I’m getting the following message when I post an article:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 256 bytes) in /mnt/Target01/334174/www.hotelmarketing.com/web/content/system/codeigniter/system/database/drivers/mysql/mysql_result.php on line 162

Increased PHP memory allocation from 32M to 128M, after consulting my hoster rackspace.

The problem is still here. Suggests I contact you.

    Thanks for your help. markus

    Markus,

As per our support policy we answer threads in the order that they are received. So in fact bumping your own thread adds you to the back of that list. Something we cannot actually see happening but just fyi

What version and build of EE are you using?
What add-ons do you have installed?

It seems to be using an awful lot of memory for something, maybe a third party custom field?

    - ExpressionEngine is v2.1.0 Build 20101020
    - No add-ons installed, but 10’000+ articles with custom fields (no third-party custom field),
    - Just upgraded from EE 1.x, upgrade went smooth, except with the reported memory issue

Thanks for updating me on your support policy. Now if you just would walk your talk, as there have been many threads that got posted and answered past mine. That’s why I sended an update. And also my suspicion made me believe - after reading all “memory size” - that you don’t have a solution for my problem - and I have to wait for “the next update, where this issue will be fixed,” as mentioned in one thread.

Happy to hear that this is not the case. 😉

Could it be that 128 MB are still not sufficient? The RAM available to PHP is exhausted, at any rate. Did you get the same error message with, say, 64 MB of RAM?

How are you posting the article, via the CP? The 20101020 build is v2.1.1, is that in fact what you’re running?

Yes, I get the same error message with 32MB or 64MB PHP Memory allocated.

I post all articles over EE’s CP - no other tools are being used.

Yet, I have 10’000+ articles in my database. Which were no problem with EE 1.X.

Could it be, that EE 2 is not ready for big sites yet?

PS: Can you please provide me with some links on how to downgrade my EE 2 installation to the latest 1.X version - need to get back on a stable version quickly.

Hi, Markus. Something is eating up your PHP memory. I’ve seen this happen with a few different third party add-ons. There is no official method for downgrading to your previous version. You’d need to have a backup of your 1.x db and use that one.

Would you consider going through your add-ons to see what might be giving you the problem?

I’ve deactivated all modules and extensions. Yet, I still receive the same memory messages.

Which version/build of EE2.x are you running? You can see that at the bottom of any control panel footer. (Not inside the Info accessory.)

    Markus,

Could you provide the build also please? The most recent build is 20101020.

Were all these entries manually added originally in EE1.x or was an import tool used?
    Do you have many categories?

    - Yes, it is 20101020 - provided you with that information already earlier
    - No import Utilitie used for the entries - I’m a EE customer since 2002 and write a daily newsletter
    - Many categories (approx. 100)

Question: I cannot edit/delete my categories as shown on the Help screen. On my category screen there are no edit/delete links. Pls let me know which feature I must actived in your Prefs for them to work.

After that, will delete all categories that are not used anymore.

The “Help File” says in “Edit Member Group” I am able to assign the “Super Admin” to edit delete categories. However, I don’t see this option in the “Edit Member Group” section - I can only change “Include members in publish” and “Sites Member list”.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Markus,

Can you clarify at exactly which point the out of memory error occurs? Is when you click the submit button or some other point? Does this happen with all channels or just one in particular?

With regards to the category issue are you logged in as a Super Admin or as another member group?

    Cheers

    Greg

Error messages appears always when I hit the submit button. The article gets submit, and what I see is the error message.
I’m logged in as the SuperAdmin.
