Templates saving with backslashes

I have an EE 1.6.8 site, build number 20091002. I just moved from Media Temple Grid Service hosting to a Media Temple (dv) server. Everything seems to be working fine, but the first time I went to edit a template, it’s saving with backslashes all over the place. I found this thread (http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/174627/) on the same subject, but there doesn’t appear to be a resolution.

The magic values in my file were all set to off, but i modified .htaccess and changes the first one to on. The local values in my PHP Info file now say On for the first value, but Off for the master value.

The templates are still saving with backslashes.

    Thoughts?

Are you using any extensions? Can you, too, upgrade to the latest version, i.e. EE 1.7?

    Extensions that are enabled are:

    - jQuery for the Control Panel (v.1.1.1)
    - Foxee Extension (v.1.10.60.035)

I’ll try upgrading tonight and then repost if it’s still happening.

Very good. At the same time, check for server side rewriting (.htaccess), too.

OK. Site is upgraded to the latest version (1.7) and latest build. The templates are still saving with backslashed if I save them from the CP, but they are working fine if I edit the flat files on the server. I can edit the flat files for now, but i’d like to figure out why the CP is saving with backslashes.

Can explain what specifically you need me to do with the .htaccess file?

Rename it temporarily. We just want to make sure it isn’t an issue.

I’ve removed the .htaccess file for now. It was only being used to remove the index.php from the urls. I tried saving another template out of the CP and i’m still getting backslashes.

I still think it’s an issue with Magic Quotes. Can you confirm that they have been turned off? What version of PHP are you using?

In the PHP Info file it says PHP Version 5.2.6 at the top.

Magic Quotes are off for all three options for both local value and master value.
    magic_quotes_gpc - Off
    magic_quotes_runtime - Off
    magic_quotes_sybase - Off

This still looks like an issue with your server environment, though. Have you contacted your host for support? What did they say?

I’ve contacted my host (Media Temple), and they’ve reviewed the server and didn’t find anything that might be causing the templates to save with backslashes. They’ve confirmed that Magic Quotes are turned off.

    Thoughts? Next Steps?

Did you also globally disable your extensions by clicking the big green button Disable Extensions?

Yes. Extensions are disabled globally. Just tested again and they’re still saving with backslashes.

Do you have the option to change PHP versions? Might want to try with a different one, I remember some PHP related issues. Alternatively you could try a quick test install using a separate database, see if you can reproduce the issue on a “new” install. (Whatever you do, please be sure to keep a working db backup.)
