    Hello,

Can anyone tell me why the ‘Total Combined Page Hits’ and my Google Analytics are way out for a site?

Total Combined Page Hits = 162836
    Google Analytics Pageviews = 6089

    They’re not even close?!

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Matthew, when did you start using GA? Are you using embeds any where? Are any of your EE pages only available for logged in users?

    Hi Sue,

I started using GA a week or so after the site went live - there wasn’t much action on the site then though, very low traffic.

Embeds, yes - just the usual header / footer ones. They’re both registering 0 from the Template Management page.

There’s only the Discussion Forum module that has member registration.

    Any ideas?

    Matthew,

ExpressionEngine’s hit counter does not does differentiate between human visitors and spiders/crawlers. So that number would include every request, spammer, spiders bots etc. that Google tries hard to eliminate from its figures.

    Does that help?

    Hi John,

Ah, yes! Thank you - that makes sense. The site has been Spam City for the past few months.

    Thanks John!
