    Hello again

    Great,
    *  I installed EE on my local MAC, installation went like a breeze.
    *  Also installed the Forum, like a breeze
    *  Unfortunately I can’t find any installation hued for the MSM

Q1 -can you point me into MSM installation guide direction, please

Now, having the Add-Ons > Modules > Discussion Forum I have this (forum_board.png attachment) Forum Board in front of me. Following the “EE_2.0x_documentaion” I am lost since hardly anything matches with the “Setting Up Your Forums” description. To start with. it says

    Set “Default Preferences”
    —————————-
Under the Forum Management tab in the Forum Module there is a General Preferences link

but there is no such tab in sight, no matter what I click on.

Except. If I click on the red link Add a new Forum Board? I now have the board “New Forum Board Preferences” and there is a “General Settings” tab and a few others (forum_board_prefs.png attachment)

    Q2 - Is this it?

OK, I went ahead an set a new forum - it sounded pretty straight forward but when visiting the forum I got a 404. also - the forum could be edited but not deleted. I had to uninstall the forum module and reinstall.

    Q3 - Am I missing something?
    Q4 - How do I add a new group?
Q5 - How can I set Moderators (the Moderator Tab was just totally blank) administers and possibly other group member preferences?

It also says (among others) “You access these areas under the User Management tab in the Forum Module.” There is no such Tab neither?!
Q6 - Is it possible that I perhaps downloaded an outdated EE_2.0x_documentation?

WOW, that’s a lot, I hope you don’t mind. But - I really start liking EE even more than I thought I would (joking) - Great CMS work, indeed and I love the Back-End set-up.

    Thanks

[Mod Edit: Moved to the EE 2 Technical Support forum]

I trust you have seen the docs? What have you tried, what did not work?

    .

You’ll have the same with “Default Preferences”, too. Is your forum module working, apart from that? Otherwise I’d suggest to focus on getting the MSM up and running first.

oops ... missed that ( I was looking for the MSM in the “Module Section”, sorry
Took me 3.89 seconds to install ... boy is this all easy!  :cheese:

Ahm - Forum seems to work everything fine now (uninstalled and re-installed it again) and I [set up a couple (attachment) but now when trying to view, I get only a blank page.

Sure I’m only still missing something as easy as with the MSM 😖

Hi, Renegades. Are you attempting to set up a forum on the initial site, or one of the MSM sites? You didn’t mention which build/version of EE and the forum you’re using.. You can find the build/version number for EE in the footer of the site.

    Morning Sue
    *  EE is the latest (just bought it a few days ago (2.1.1) and
    *  the forum to (3 not sure if it has extension but got it with EE)
    *  Yes, what you see in the attachment is the forum of the main site not the second site set up under MSM
    *  I installed the forum first, set up a couple and then installed the MSM

    Steps I took:
__ First time I installed the forum I got a 404 (when trying to view) instead the blank page,
__ then I installed the forum again and got a blank page.
__ I left everything as it was and installed the MSM. Same thing still can;t view the forum.
__ Now I uninstalled both forum and MSM, reinstalled MSM first and then the forum but I would still see a blank page of the forum.

Do I miss something ( I read the tutorials [documentation] back and forth but I can’t figure what I overlooked/misunderstood)

    Thanks a lot
.... BTW: If I have other setup-related questions, should I rather open another thread?

    Hi Renegades,

Just to clarify, you have set up the forum trigger word as well as the forum short name and label? Are you using an .htaccess file to remove index.php from your URLs? Does everything (MSM) seem to work correctly?

    Cheers

    Greg

    Hi Greg.
    Thanks for your reply.
MSM I Just added another site but didn’t do anything on that site

Is there anything in EE to update any path to a starting page or paths the CSS folder / JS folder, etc? What could I possibly miss?

I set everything up on MAMP using iMAC. The main Site in EE is in the root and the second site I pretended is a a new URL, too - so this site sits in the root too (not a sub-domain of the main site)

    Thanks

    Hi Renegades,

Sorry, I’m a bit confused because you have a couple of threads going. Is the forum issue sorted out now? If not, let’s back up a bit and just get the initial site and forum working correctly.

Is there anything in EE to update any path to a starting page or paths the CSS folder / JS folder, etc? What could I possibly miss?

What is not working here? Is this related to your own site templates or the CP or forum themes?

    Cheers

    Greg

    Hi Greg

Sorry, got up late this morning (8:00AM)

I hardly have anything on yet. Just installed the latest EE ( 2.1.1) with the MSM and Forum and set up two sites (blank) but set up two forum-(threads?) on the main site. I then click on “visit forum” and get a blank page to see only (my first Forum-Install) gave me a 404.

    Thanks

That blank page may hold a suppressed error. Can you open up index.php in you root and turn on debugging please?

    $debug = 1;

Now revisit your forums. Do you see an error of any sort?

Also you don’t have a template group called forums do you? You shouldn’t have.

Hi John, thanks for your reply

I Tried debug but it still only showed the blank page, nothing else to see.

template group called forums do you? You shouldn’t have

? Hmm, yes, there is, but this is EE’ default settings! ?! (see the attachment board-pref.png)

I now just uninstalled the Forum and re-installed it by the third time and - I shall drop dead - I did the same again (I had the steps marked down from the previous set-up) and guess what ... the forum now shows (I have no idea)

The only thing now missing (so far) is - I cannot post in the forum. I even did a member registration but both, as the “super-admin” as well as a member, whenever I try to post I get the message “you are not authorized to perform this action”

I looked in the CP and the only place I could imagine responsible for this was “HTML Formatting in Posts” (see attachment post-format.png) - but no, even the other two options would still produce the same posting error.

Everything else seems fine in the forum, I even can upload my images and own avatar (after I activated these options) but I just can’t post in any forum.

    Thanks a lot.

    Well, that’s good I guess 😊

Do take another look at forum permissions.

    Hi Ingmar,

Thanks, that’s all done through “members” even before I re-installed the forum already and no reason why i should’t be allowed to post. (I granted all)

One thing, however, I notice in the permission section ... the last “empty” box, that - according to the documentation - should allow me to bulk update permissions, this last empty box does not exist in my CP at all? But I guess this has nothing to do with my “not allowed to perform this action” message. 😉

I am talking about forum permissions. They are separate from regular channel-based ones. Are you logged in as a Superadmin?

    Yes, Superadmin,
and I just checked the forum permissions. I have all rights to do everything. Plus, I granted all permissions to “Members” too.
