    Greetings

    Just purchased a commercial version of EE 2.1.1 + MSM + Forum

    I searched this forum for possible resolved similar issues but the closet I found was here ... http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/164173/ - yet it didn’t do any good for me.
    I tired to install EE on my local server, latest iMAC using MAMP for developing sites. I tried 3 time, even dropped the DB, set it up again but every time I try to install EE I would get this error. Surely all DB credentials are correct (after 4 attempts I gotta get it right at least once 😉

    A Database Error Occurred
    Unable to select the specified database: wwwwchin_ee21

    Filename: controllers/wizard.php

    Line Number: 1447

    If I understand it right, according to wizard.php EE questions that the DB connection exists, but it sure does! Am I something missing here?

    Before starting the installation I got the message that all requirements for an installations are met, this [check] didn’t however check the connection to the DB, right? I set up other software before, all on this local server environment and without problems. Truly I am lost here ... sorry :down:

    Please shake my brain into place! 😉

    Renegades,

    Not being sure of your own personal set-up, first thing I would do would be to test your DB.
    Copy dbtest.php from /system/expressionengine/utilities and put it into your root.
    Edit it in a text-editor to reflect your details. Then visit it through your browser. What are the results?

    There are a few guides out there for installing on MAMP. One here, here and here. Some are for EE1.x but principles are the same.

    Hi John ...
    Late reply, very busy! - But Good News 😉 (Though, I am still baffled a bit, please help me to find my senses again)

    I have MAMP installed for a while and have two other sites perfectly running in it. One is a ShopCart from ViArt and another is a Drupal site. Both run perfectly. I just did the same to prepare for an EE installation ...

    1.  starting MAMP, I opened phpMyAdmin
    2.  I set up a new User with full privileges
    3.  I created a new DB running this SQL

    create database db_name;

use db_name;

    grant all on db_name.* to db_user@'localhost' identified by 'password';

    flush privileges;

    ... connection to DB server was never established, thus DB was never collected, neither. I tried a few times, dumped and created new a DB but never succeeded.

    Then I thought, what the heck, it’s gotta be a USER/PW issue and decided to use an existing User and ... VOILA, I was ready for installation and now I am enjoying myself in the EE CP ... Question:  Do you have any idea why I was not able to use the newly created USER?PW ? I am badly lost, sorry!

    Thanks

    BTW: 95 tables in DB, correct?

    STUPID
    can’t do anything if I “flush privileges;” (I forgot I used to set them manually afterwards. Must have gotten too excited to install EE) - Can I ? Don’t let anyone know 😉
    Too much at the moment and now I go sleep 3:30AM
    Sorry

    Hi Sue
    Thanks for asking.

    Everything is fine since I used an old USER/PW (already set up before, I just added this User to EE)

    What I meant, with “Stupid” was - when I created the database using the SQL, I flushed all USER Privileges, hence the error that I can;t connect to the DM server and the DB cannot be collected (this would make sense, right?

    I now assigned manually (in phpMyAdmin) all privileges back to that user I created with the SQL command during the DB setup, but haven’t tried to swap this User with EE’ current User (afraid I might stuff up the install ;-0 )

    So currently I enjoy working my way through my new local install of EE ... LOVE their CP. Just a view misunderstandings of the Forum tutorial and the CP ... posted something here
    Cheers
