Hmmm… I have been trying and re-trying to install for 2 days. I have read and re-read this and other posts too. My safe_mode is off and open_basedir is commented out in my php.ini. I still get these errors. Thsi is the first time in 2 days I am posting about this problem—it is very frustrating.

    paperweight,

I am splitting you off into a thread of your own.

Can you tell us the version of EE you are trying to install?

Is this a local or hosted environment?

Can you run our server wizard please and make sure you meet all the requirements on this page?

    What is your exact error?

After commenting out open_basedir in your php.ini did you restart Apache?
Can you contact your host regarding disabling it?

Ah, my apologies, I had not seen your message here and I re-posted back in that other thread :(

    1) I am installing EE 2.1.1
    2) My own full root VPS, so I control everything.
    3) Yes, I ran the wizard and received this good message “Congratulations! Your server is ready to use ExpressionEngine!”

    4) Exact error is:
Your config.php file is unreadable. Please make sure the file exists and that the file permissions to 666 (or the equivalent write permissions for your server) on the following file: expressionengine/config/config.php

    5) Yes, open_basedir has already been commented out and Apache restarted.

    6) I am the host 😊

    tks for your help~~

Attached is the screenshot result after I ran the Wizard. Everything appears fine, but the config.php error persists. Any ideas what I can do to troubleshoot further?

    Tks~

I have been trying and re-trying to install for 2 days.

Did you re-upload the EE files? I had trouble with two installations last week, and in both cases, for some reason, some files (including config.php) had become corrupted. Uploading again freshly fixed the problem in both cases. Just a thought, anyway, as it sounds very similar to my situation.

Yes, I re-downloaded three times and re-installed my entire server environment once. Still same problem.

Just to confirm: the config.php and database.php both should have zero bytes when I install, right?

Please close this thread. Problem solved 😊

Gremlins were on my server and they decided to leave—not sure why exactly, but things are fine now and I successfully installed it.
