Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how I can show/generate a thumbnail of an image published through a custom field.

I’m simply trying to show a thumbnail of an image next to the excerpt of an article. My client doesn’t want to upload a primary image as well as a second thumb image. It seems like this should be a relatively easy task but I’m having a heck of a time. I’d prefer not to use a plugin if that’s possible.

Is there a native solution to show the thumbs automatically created by the file manager? Can you change the default size/scaling of those thumbs?

You can always show the original image, but input a smaller height and width (make sure you keep the right perportions). I also use a thumbnail next the excerp of my articles, but I do create a second smaller image to do this.

That’s what I’m currently doing. The problem is that if I have 30 articles, each with images of 300k+, the page will load slower than I would like. I’m looking for a performance-friendly alternative.

    Thanks for the response though.

You can either create thumbnails or start with lower resolution photos to begin with. My advice is to go with thumbsnails.

Like I said before, my client doesn’t want to have to upload 2 images.

I was hoping someone has come across a more practical solution. Otherwise, ill have to write a custom solution which is not ideal for a number of reasons.

Has anyone had success with any image resizing plugins for ee v.2.1?

Any suggestions or examples on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

There are add-ons that will create those thumbnails for you automatically. Moving to the CodeShare Corner.
