Hello to everyone on this forum, I am brand new here and still ignorant of many things.

Not sure if this question was raise before (could not find an answer) so if it was, forgive me please.
MSM! If we have a site built in EE and this site is large, we decide to move some parts of it into sub-domains. Would that mean we need to install MSM?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi Renegades!

    Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you might not need to go with MSM. If you’re just wanting to put some of your information (IE: mysite.com to news.mysite.com) you can do so with a template group called ‘news’ and an .htaccess modification to point to a subdomain as opposed to mysite.com/news

Is that what you’re hoping to accomplish? We’re running CodeIgniter, MojoMojotor, EllisLab, and ExpressionEngine all in one stall of EE. This is the best example of multiple site manager usage. Let me know if you need some more info.

Hi Leslie, Thanks indeed for your answer.
It helps us for a decision on how to setup the site architecture and for some areas the .htaccess modification would be OK.

Though - in other cases - we would use a sub-domain also and maybe specifically because of the complexity of the section, meaning it will be a few very large sections with many if not hundreds and more pages, etc .. like a huge events calendar or maybe a special booking section, plus, languages.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but for keeping the site clean and organized (backend) MSM would be better?

Second, I raised the MSM licensing question for that in another thread. So at this point in time I don’t want to double post, cross-post or cross-link, I believe that would rather be a little spumy, correct? Please inform me if I am allowed to link to another thread?

    Thanks again indeed, Leslie

It’s the supported solution and, yes, it makes for a cleaner separation between sites.

Please link all you want 😊 That said, no harm in asking a question again, or clarifying in your original thread.

    Hello

I purchased EE and have installation problems. Somehow my post about this got forgotten I believe. I take the liberty to post a link here.

    Thanks a lot

    Hi, Renegades,

As per our support policy, support threads are answered within one business day.  Our support team will answer yours in order it was received.

    Thank you!

    Hi Lisa,

I know your policy and I do not question your policy, please do not misread my post. In fact I appreciate your policy and working. I believe I mentioned this earlier, even before I became a paying client. In fact, your fast reply and the way your team answers had impressed me and made me becoming a paying client (though I spent only USD 599.00 for a beginning)

But if you believe I did something wrong and just try to push myself to the front, then please explain why there are quite a few posts that were placed after mine and they are all answered, whereas my one stays unanswered. (is there an exemption clause in your policy which I misread?)

Reading through the forum and finding my post 1.5 pages behind [unanswered], all I wanted is to make sure it was not forgotten. Simply because I know we are all just humans and we can forget/oversee something, nothing wrong with that.

Though, I feel uncomfortable now feeling that I have to apologize for being human myself. (now that I am a paying client)

    Thank you

Hi, Renegades - we have a tool that shows us posts in order of latest customer response.  We use that to ensure that we stick with the “first in, first out” methodology.  Occasionally there are exceptions (I made one just earlier to get someone to the right place for support, since they needed to go to an add-on author, for instance) but we generally try to stick with that.

Right now there are two threads ahead of you, all having waited approximately the same amount of time (much less than one business day), so they will get answered in our evening shift tonight.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Hi Lisa

Always appreciated EE (ellislab) team spirit and never questioned your style or policy. As said - I appreciate a team that does!

Reading your reply, then I need to say that I misread the forum listings, simply, because the forum shows about 1.5 pages of posts ahead of mine and they were mostly answered. So my apology for misreading the forum listing.

    Best regards

    Hi, Renegades -

Right, you can’t just look at the listings, we go by time stamps. =)  Remember, replies bump threads to the front of the forums, which is why we have a tool to help us out. =)

Hardly, Renegades.  It’s a new support system to get used to.  We’re all happy to help, and you’ll get support this evening as well.

Thank you!  And please start a new thread if you have any remaining questions.
