    Hi,

We’re going to be upgrading our servers at Rackspace soon. We have two servers at the moment. One web front end and a database server. I’ve never done a migration before. Any advice on how to get this done cleanly?

I’ve found a few articles in the wiki. Namely:

    and

    http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Server_Migration/

Is there anything else I should know?

Make sure you have good backups before starting. Are you going to be changing versions, or just moving things from one machine to another?

I’m just moving things for now.

So essentially if I’m upgrading to a new server setup (web front and database backend) I would just backup the database, copy the site structure to the new web front end, import the database to the new db server and then change the dns to match the old configuration.

Is that it in a nutshell?

That sounds like it should work, yes. The most important thing it to make a good backup, I’ve found 😊
