We’re very excited to announce the launch of Mountee!

Mountee allows you to access your ExpressionEngine templates as Finder files, so you can work uninterrupted in your favourite app - changing template attributes, creating re-usable template groups and more!

    ——————————————————————————————

    - Use your favourite Mac editing tools
    - Work with files & folders
    - Work with your snippets and global variables as files.
    - Way faster than FTP, Mountee communicates directly with your database
    - Don’t let the Control Panel disrupt your workflow - change template attributes within OS X
    - Mountee works behind the scenes - clearing the cache, saving revisions, etc.

    ——————————————————————————————

Visit hellomountee.com to find out more information, download the app for a 14-day trial or buy a license.

    Thanks, guys.

We just added the ability for Mountee to load your snippets and global variables as files too.

Network Places…and mount your drive as FTP location or get an editor that supports FTP/live editing(WeBuilder, TopStyle…)...or save templates as files and use noteapad++ 😊

I really like the idea of Mountee, but honestly to work without SVN would be reckless for me and my teams. We just have to have a file representation of templates. Editing in the DB only is dangerous.

@airways SVN integration is something we’re looking into. How do you integrate it into your EE workflow - does every team member have a full local copy of the site locally which is updated via SVN, or do you have it integrated into your live server?

We actually use SVN for both development and for server deployments. Each developer has a copy that they work in, check out of SVN. When we are ready to release a version of a site we tag it with a release number or simply checkout or update the production server, which is also a working copy. Files that are unique to an installation are kept out of SVN through svn:ignores. It’s probably worth noting that we also use SVN to manage custom module code, and to check in copies of whatever third party addons we’re using on a given site.

I was thinking about Mountee a couple days ago again and realized that it would actually be very useful in it’s current form - if only it worked on 1.7 installations (we do still sometimes do 1.7 development when the site is either old or when we require too many non-EE 2.0 compatible addons). Main reason for this is the awesome folder / file creation metaphor that you sort of already get in EE 2.0 simply because it syncs what it sees in the file system into the database. Using Mountee it would be really easy to manage templates in EE 1.7 - but alas it is not yet compatible.

I would love to see integration with Git or Mercurial.  Distributed version control + Mountee would blow my mind.

I’m loving Mountee, thanks so much. It took me a while to stop logging in to the backend of my sites—old habits and all; but now that that habit is broken, its been a great way to use the tools I love to create EE sites.

I’m wondering if there has been any thoughts on Mountee with Git. I’m not currently using Git, but have been reading more and more about deploying EE via Git.
