I have a site I’ve just upgraded to the 1.7.0 this morning, everything went fine with that.

I was logged in as SuperAdmin and clearing out some spam members with Member utilities when I got logged-out of the CP. I immediately went to log back in but the log-in page now has the theme missing and I get ‘The username you submitted was not found in the database’. I can’t log-in with the editors password either. The actual site is down as well, just a complete white page.

    Tim,

Can you turn on some and see if anything turns up on that blank page for you?

    Is your config file intact?

I’m having the same issue with EETemplates.com. Banned some members. Got logged out with no styling on the log in. Config file is intact but does not seem to be recognized as I tried to use overrides to point to the themes folder and it did not work. And to make matters worse it is not allowing any of my users to log in. Says that Admin is not a recognized username. And when I request that it send my password to my email address (which I verified is correct in the DB) it says it Cannot Send Email at This Time. I have no .htaccess in play. I checked the permissions and they are correct. I was using 1.6.9 and figured why not try and update maybe that will jostle something loose. So I updated to 1.7 without a hitch but still cant log in. Nothing in the cache directory. And at this point in time I think all is lost… If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them too….

    Howdy folks,

First, I am sorry that you ran into this.  Let me give a brief explanation.

The banned IPs are stored in a serialized array in the exp_sites table.  That exp_sites table is set to TEXT, meaning it can handle up to about ~64k characters.

What’s happening here is that the the exp_sites table is getting too full, and then it gets truncated.  The truncated table is a broken serialized array, which means EE can’t read it.

The way to get up and running right now is to grab the exp_sites table from your backup and restore just that table.  That should get you up and running.

Greg Salt, the author of Member Utilities, is also going to pop in here shortly to address that.  Essentially, the only reason MU is involved is because it makes such banning so much easier.  I believe he has a plan to help overcome this.

    Tim and Marcus,

My apologies for the problems that you’ve suffered with this. I shall be issuing an update to MU that will stop this from occurring again. That update will make an alteration to the exp_sites DB table so that much more data can be stored.

    Cheers

    Greg

Thanks Lisa. I did a db backup before I upgraded yesterday so I’ve rolled back that db now and everything seems fine.

I’ve had a an email from Greg as well letting me know what’s happening.

    Edit:
Was posting at the same time. Cheers Greg.
