I use Freeform for contact forms and as most of you know it is very effective. However, I get a fair amount of spam messages like this one:

    Name: asiathj
Email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
    Details: GZOm4P bsbxlohjfmfl, hnhmnfunozoq, [link=http://fpponzwjbeho.com/]fpponzwjbeho[/link], http://miayqgsyhfzm.com/

My question: is this stuff malicious or just bothersome? Is it Romanized Russian? What is the point of such drivel? And finally the $64 question, why does anyone waste their life doing this kind of stuff?

I am really curious to know.

    Thanks.

    Forrest Anderson -

Without clicking on the links, it is impossible to say with certainty what the intent of these are. Sometimes these may be masked links to files containing a virus. Sometimes they may take you to a site where you’ll be asked to buy products. Sometimes you’ll be taken to a site that’s just full of ads and popups hoping you’ll click on them and generate revenue.

There is nothing good about any of these.

Why would people do it? There are two main reasons: 1) money, 2) just to cause trouble.

    Hi Lance,

I have never, even on my worst days, been tempted to click on one of those nasty looking links. Thanks for the feedback!
