I know of the option in MSM to import/move weblog entries from an existing site when creating a new one, but is there any way to do so after the fact? I have a site I already created, and I’d like to move the entirety of one weblog from one site to the other. Can this be done via a Query or editing the DB directly?

    KKCJ,

I wouldn’t attempt to do it via the DB directly. How many entries are we talking about here?
I would create a new template in your existing MSM site , the one with the content and set it up to output in Movable Type Export Format then use the Movable Type Import Utility to import the info into the second site.

There are a few different importer tools on devot-ee.com which also may suit.

    Does that make sense?

Not a huge amount, only 33.

I used that MT method to import from Textpattern a few years back, and while it works, it was somewhat annoying to do. How many different DB tables would need to be altered to change a weblog and its entries (no comments or anything) from one site to another?

It’s a bit more complicated than that.. are you also using the same custom fields for any other weblogs? If you are, you’re going to run into issues there. It’s really easier to just import them a second time, or use a Moblog or MetaweblogAPI client to get them in there.

Nope, they have their own dedicated custom fields.

In that case, then I’d back up my database first, and then look at the following tables to manipulate:

    exp_weblogs
    exp_weblog_fields
    exp_weblog_titles
    exp_weblog_data

    if using categories

    exp_categories
    exp_category_group
    exp_category_field_data

I may have missed one of the exp_cat* ones.. but you get the general drift.

    For closure’s sake… 😊

I ended up deciding to export-import after all, but using external plugins I found on Devot-ee that exported & imported CSV - a much more friendly and flexible format than MovableType, IMO. Thanks for the help anyway!
