I know that it’s no longer possible to download EE core, but given that the latest EE 1 update 1.7.0 is a security release and EllisLab recommend all users update as soon as possible, I was just wondering whether a patch will be released for EE core to fix this security issue?

Hi, tidy - EECore was not impacted by this security update, so you should be fine.
