Got a web project coming up that I feel is a good opportunity to learn Expression Engine for. Seen a tutorial that I think would be good to learn whilst i create the site. But the tutorial is for Expression Engine 1.6, is there much difference in learning this compared to the newer 2.0 version as I would really like to learn the from the most up-to-date information but if there is not a fundamental difference between learning the two then that is fine. Just need to reassure myself before I start the project.

    The tutorial is: http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/free-tutorials/category/building-a-church-site/

If anybody knows of any other decent tutorials that i could consider, especially actual working site-build ones which I tend find easier to understand, could you let me know of the sites.

    Cheers

    Pete

Hey Peter. There’s very little difference between EE1 and EE2 when building, you can see for yourself here, right on Train-EE: http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/free-tutorials/comments/translating-ee-1-code-to-ee-2/ The same principles apply when building a site in EE1 and EE2, it’s just that the control panel will be different.

Mike at Train-EE also has a new book that runs you through building a site specifically with EE2: http://www.train-ee.com/courseware/books/detail/building-an-expressionengine-2-site-small-business/ and you can also see these screencasts: http://mijingo.com/screencasts/learning-expressionengine-2-complete-series

But back to your question, you can follow that tutorial that you linked to so that you can understand how EE works, and it’s almost exactly the same in EE2.

Thanks Tony for the quick responce,

I’ve just found this site as well.

Think i might go this route first as it seems quite short so I can taste expression engine out without committing too much time, incase i find its not for me, and the website that is created seems like it would suit what i need really well.
Need to get on it now, no more excuses!

Yep Ryan’s screencasts are supposed to be very good, and I also linked to them in my first post 😊

I used Ryan’s screencasts for my first EE site, and they were great!

Just remember to swap “exp:channel:entries” whenever you see “exp:weblog:entries”, and you’ll mostly be good to go.
