I have the need to accept hi-res, broadcast quality, video files but am having difficulty.

We have upped our upload capacity on our server (hosted in house) and have upped the upload setting within EE.

Is there some kind of addon that would allow me to create a custom field that ftp’s the files rather than using the file option?

    Expression Engine v2.1.0
    Build:  20100810

    Thanks, in advance 😊

Just how large are these files? Just to see if using a PHP-based upload is feasible at all.

They could potentially be enormous.  They would be broadcast quality video files (some hi-res, HD)

    blaiseymae,

I would recommend using service like Amazon S3. There are then a few fieldtypes available for you to connect with this space. You will also save on bandwidth fees in the long run.

    Does that help?

I would agree with John. Amazon S3 is the way to go as it will be a lot easier to offload the files instead of maintaining them on your server.

I just finished listening to an ExpressionEngine podcast hosted Lea Alcantara and Ryan Irelan. They go over exactly what you are asking about and include a number of links to various EE plugins. http://5by5.tv/eepodcast/39

Thanks for the additional information, Jon. I’m sure it will help others facing the same issues. Don’t hesitate to post again as needed.
