Hi,

Embarrassingly basic problem but I just can’t get EE2 to connect to my database when trying to install.

- I’ve created the database.

- I can log in to mySQL (database.studiosrk.com) using the exact same username and password that I entered into EE install page.  So I know it’s there.

- Tried every combo of usernames and passwords i can think of but always comes up as “Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.”

Could this be a problem with the server or is it simply to do with the connection to database…?

Additional info:

I’m working on this site for a client who has a server already.
I’ve uploaded EE 2.1 onto that server but database is on my own server.

Does this matter?

If your database isn’t on the same server as the website, make sure your database address (hostname) is not set to “localhost” but to “database.studiosrk.com”

Yes I’ve had the address set as “database.studiosrk.com”... 
I just can’t believe that i have the wrong username or password.. I’ve tried so many different combinations too.. grrr
I still hope it’s just me being stoopid and inputting the wrong details but I wanted to see if it’s got anything to do with the server or not. 
But if it’s saying it’s not connecting to the database (which does exist) then it has to be an issue with connection and not server no?

First, I would advice you to remove your mysql username and password from your previous post.

If your details are correct and entered correctly, it could easily be a server (security) setting. Are you sure your mysql database allows remote connections, sometimes remote connections are blocked for security reasons.
