We set up a 100+ media network close to this time last year and now we need to change the domain name. This network uses the MSM and to date we have had no issues at all. In addition, we host with Engine Hosting and we are about to transition into the new domain name. I have a few questions but first a short bit of background.

    1. The master URL holds the main EE 1.6.8 BUILD: 20090723
    2. Contains a MSM containing 100+ sites (all URLs are changing to reflect the new media network)
    3. Already backed up current files, templates and database
    4. Already adjusted the path files
    4. Already have Engine Hosting in place for the transition

Engine Hosting advised me to confer with your experts concerning the impact on the MSM and this transition. Is there anything that we need to do with the MSM short of making changes to the path files and created a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file? What can we anticipate in the transition from the current domain and 100+ domain names to the new main domain name and the 100+ other new domain names? Keep in mind that we are doing this transition within Engine Hosting and NOT moving to a new hosting company. This is staying exclusively within EH. They are giving us a new public_html to copy the new files and folders. We are duplicating the database and making changes to our existing templates and path files before we place them in the new public_html folder. We are doing all of this today and need to know what other/additional steps we need to take to insure that nothing clamps up.

Hope this isn’t too confusing. Thank you for any response.

Sounds like you’re good to go. I’d also delete any cache files too. Just make sure you aren’t making global search and replace changes to the exp_sites table.

Let us know how things go.
