Hi I’m asking EECMS developers about their experiences with hosting on a cloud host like http://www.rackspacecloud.com

I have seen some posts in the forum that identify occasional slow performance issues? Does this happen regularly?

What sort of monthly website traffic volume would you expect this to be a good option?
    < 10,000 visits & < 100,000 page views?
    10,000-50,000 visits & < 500,000 page views?
    50,000-200,000 visits
    200,000+ visits

Is this a reliable option for small sites? Or a good value scalable option for medium to large sites who don’t wish to bite off a dedicated server.

If you have run the numbers and have a blog post I think we could all value your opinions.

    Thanks
    Jeremy

I had 2 quick conversations on this topic on Twitter and I thought I had better put them here if anyone is interested. Thanks to @jeremylatham, @mediagirl for responding.

@jeremybrown: Looking for your #eecms experiences and opinions on cloud hosts like rackspacecloud. Any feedback welcome http://ow.ly/2MEG7

@jeremylatham: I’ve had no problems with rackspacecloud for the ee sites I’ve built.

@jeremybrown: Thanks Jeremy! Do you enable caching? There are some posts that advise against this but isn’t it extra CPU costs?

@jeremylatham: DO NOT enable caching…it will not work! RSC is already performing caching.

@mediagirl: EngineHosting is much better. I’ve worked on two #eecms projects hosted at Rackspace Cloud and have been very underwhelmed.

@jeremybrown: Thanks, EngineHosting look fantastic. I’m working out if PAYG will work for large & small sites or get a dedicated & host all.

@mediagirl: EngineHosting is the only host I recommend for EE sites. The performance is solid.
