I have been developing a site using EE2 and recently went in to install the Pages module.  When clicking on the Modules tab from the dropdown, I was met with:

    An Error Was Encountered

Unable to load the requested language file: language/english/categories_lang.php

I’m not able to find this file anywhere, and a general Google search proved useless, as did anything in the forum.  I’m not using any sort of addons or plugins at this point.

Any thoughts as to what could be the problem?  Any help is appreciated.

Are you on the latest version and build? My suggestion would be to re-upload a fresh set of files, including all language files and the CP theme files, updating to the latest build in the process if you haven’t done so yet.

I am using the latest build, but I will try re-uploading everything.  I’ll keep you posted on what happens.

Fix it, it was a third party issue.

    Thanks 😊

Hi, I got the same error when trying to install EE 2.1.3 together with WooThemes Inspire theme. Which third party was your problem? How did you solved it?

happyuser, that file doesn’t come with a stock install of EE2.1.3.

So that means something else is giving you problems. I’ve not used WooThemes, so I don’t know what can be causing this.

    Patata?

Hi, I posted the same question in Woothemes Forum with a little more information, http://forum.woothemes.com/topic.php?id=34830

Login is required so here is the post:

“Hi, I have probably the same problem but with Inspire. I have a fresh 2.1.3 together with Inspire, donwloaded Jan 8 2011. I have installed a clean EE on my localhost without problem.

But when creating a second project which should go with Inspire I get this error after the “license agreement” screen:

    “An Error Was Encountered
Unable to load the requested language file: language/english/categories_lang.php”

I’m not sure _which_ folder the error is referring to but I noted the in /system/expressionengine/third_party/categories/language/english/ (these are the files from Inspire theme) there is a file named “lang.categories.php”

I did a quick test duplicating and renaming this file to “categories_lang.php” without success.

I have also search for the file “categories_lang.php” without success, both as physical file in the project and as text/string _in_ the files.

Do you have any ideas whats going on? Can it be something about permissions?”

Sue: Is there a way to find out exactly _what_ folder/file the error messages points at?

The file is language/english/categories_lang.php, either in the main or the third_party folder. As Sue said, this file doesn’t ship with EE. Make sure you have those themes installed correctly, or ask them for support.

Thank you Ingmar, I have posted my issues at Woothemes Forum.

I’ve made some tests and found out that the actual error message fires on row 177 in the file “./system/expressionengine/libraries/EE_Lang.php”

But - I don’t now if this is a useful information for me or Woothemes when trying to find out what’s going wrong…

WooThemes should be able to help. Our files are throwing the error, but the real issue is where the install wants to put the categories_lang.php.

Thank you Sue for your help.
(I’ll update this post when I finally understand what was going wrong and it’s fixed - it may be useful for someone else)
